This month in Steam Class was dedicated to hearts! The class used a variety of activities using or relating to hearts. One of the class’s favorite was the fizzing hearts. The class got to watch bubbles as they colored delicate coffee filter heart shapes. It was simple just some baking soda scattered on the filter then colored water with some vinegar. Each drop with a medicine dropper was a fizzing sight to see.
Another favorite activity this month was the candy heart graph! The class used their judgement on which column the colored heart goes. There were columns of colors, after the class would count how many in each column. This was enhanced their mathematic skills of counting, color recognition, categorizing and attention to detail. At times, some would just start placing the hearts in a box and had to be reminded of the key task, to place the color heart in the correct column.
