Silent Saturday – “A BETTER Victory”
Verse: For as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. Matthew 12:40
Read: Acts 2:25-31
The Jewish people believed that death was a separation of body and soul. While your body was left to decay, your soul went a place known as Sheol (Hades). Sheol was a place of the dead (Ps. 16:10). A place where there is separation from God. Peter’s public declaration of the gospel in Acts 2 explains that Jesus was not left among those in Sheol and His flesh did not rot. Jesus was in Sheol but did not stay there, His body was behind the stone but did not stay there.
This is a great picture of Jesus overcoming the death of our bodies and the death of our souls. While His body laid behind the stone, His soul traveled to tear the gate off of Sheol and remove the keys that would hold us there. Jesus not only beat the death of our physical bodies. He beat the death of our souls.
Jesus was consumed with eternity and its effect presently. Jesus was consumed with a love for your present body and your eternal soul. Jesus came to do what no one could do before Him. Jesus came to set you free from judgement for all eternity. Jesus came to restore your relationship with His Father now and forever. This day you can celebrate because Jesus went to a place you never have to go to because He did it for us.
Jesus is your better victory!
